Out on Tampa Bay, Tocobaga men watch an approaching waterspout. In The Feathered Serpent, the waterspout suggests the sacred connection between Mother Earth and Father Sky. In many cultures, the serpent was associated with eternal life, wealth, intelligence, sexuality, fire, light and power. The rattle of the rattlesnake is a prayer while birds carry that prayer to the Great Mystery.
In 1898 Frank Hamilton Cushing excavated one of the most revealing archaeology sites in Florida. The Coming Storm depicts Calusa people rushing to save their dock from the heavy dugout canoes that are acting like battering rams. An Honored Man is trying to save some ceremonial masks that were unearthed by Cushing centuries later.
